Customer Review: Does a lot in a small space

This is a robustly built machine that doesn’t weigh too much. It fits neatly onto a desktop and is well designed not to occupy too much space. All the paper in and out trays are stacked facing the front of the machine which makes access convenient. The feed paper tray is capacious and easy to load. The control panel at the top is angled for clear viewing.

The instructions booklet for installation was clear and simple to follow. Installation for my iMac was straightforward, though I wasted a couple of hours trying to figure out why I couldn’t get my computer to communicate with the printer/fax. It turned out to be a duff USB cable (of mine). Once I’d switched to a 2.0 USB cable that I knew worked all ran smoothly. Note that a USB cable is not included to connect your computer to the device. Brother recommend that the USB cable should not be longer than 2 metres. Included on the installation disk is a useful link to a Brother web-site that offers on-line help and from which the latest printer drivers, etc., can be downloaded. For example, the software with this machine only had drivers for the Mac 10.3 operating system, but the 10.4 is available on-line.

I put in my speed-dial fax numbers manually before I realized that it much easier to do it on-screen. Similarly, altering any of the default settings is simpler done on-screen, such as turning on and off a fax report for every fax sent.

Printing, faxing and copying is fast. Altogether a good buy.
